Elementary Academic Program
Our
elementary program is free to residents of Sarasota, Charlotte
and Manatee Counties. Beginning with the 2005-2006 school year, we will
have two campuses for elementary students. Our primary location is on
Pinebrook Road in Venice, Florida and a new charter location will open
in the fall in northwest Sarasota. The location will be announced soon.
It is our goal to work with students one-on-one and provide them with the necessary tools
to be successful in school. The School's program is designed to attract
and benefit parents and students who have an interest in a Montessori
educational design. However, the school is open to any student residing
in the school district.
We provide a rigorous
academic program characterized by individualization and high standards
for all students. Diverse teaching methods is respected and encouraged.
Creativity in designing unique approaches to instruction is valued. Such
approaches include developing personalized learning contracts and means
of assessments, utilization of portfolios, and imaginative uses of technology.
Learning may occur
independently, in whole class lessons, or in operative learning groups.
The core philosophy of the school is the integration of family and cultural
values into the governance and curriculum of the school. We believe that
parental involvement in education is the foundation for increased academic
achievement of students. Upon graduating from the school each student
will have:
- A clearly demonstrated set of age appropriate academic
skills
- A commitment to service and an understanding of
their role in the betterment of society
- A clear awareness of their rights and responsibilities
as citizens and leaders
- The self-management skills and flexibility necessary
for success
The School will
admit students regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, income
level, disabling conditions, or proficiency in the English language. A
child demonstrating the following qualities would be the most likely to
succeed in the learning environment of the Montessori program:
- Passion for learning
- Self-motivation
- Willingness to investigate and take risks
- Ability to make choices
- Self-directed learning
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to follow through and complete tasks
- Respect for self, the environment, and others
- Personally responsible
- Ability to work with others
- Honest & compassionate
Families of eligible
children must be willing to make an extraordinary commitment to their
child's education. Commitment to the School's mission and educational
philosophy manifests itself in the signing of the IVMS Parent Agreement.
