Island Village Schools Admissions Policy

If there is an opening in any program during the current school year, a student will only be enrolled upon submission of a completed IVMS admissions packet. Otherwise, new applicants will be placed on a waiting list. As soon as an opening occurs, the administrative staff will contact the parent/guardian to complete the enrollment process. There is no tuition for admission to charter school programs, but a student must be able to furnish proof of residency. Admission to the IVMS early childhood program does require tuition and follows a different procedure than that described below.

If enrolling from another Sarasota County public school, the student will be listed under IVMS attendance in the County student database. Student records will be transferred to IVMS from the sending school. If enrolling from a private school, a public school outside the school district, or home-schooling, final evaluation of the application will depend on Sarasota County school district regulations. IVMS also accepts students who reside in Manatee and Charlotte Counties.

IVMS accepts students who fall into Exceptional Student Education (ESE) programs as long as the student can be served within an inclusion setting. IVMS does not offer a full-day ESE program. Any applicant who requires full-time ESE services will be referred to the school district. It is incumbent upon the applying parent/guardian to furnish the school with an accurate, complete, and current copy of the student’s IEP. Providing insufficient or false information of a child’s legally required ESE services may be grounds for rejection of the student’s admission to the school.

From January 14th through February 12th, 2010, IVMS will hold a 30-day open enrollment period. Applications for students entering kindergarten through 2nd grade will be taken on a first come first served basis until enrollment exceeds capacity. Only if the number of applications exceeds the number of openings will a lottery be held, whereby each application is drawn randomly until capacity is reached. The lottery will occur at the first scheduled board meeting in March. Any student applying to the school for 3rd grade or above will be placed on a waiting list until currently enrolled students have indicated their intentions to return for the following school year. There are a limited number of available spaces in the upper elementary and middle school programs.

Following the close of the open enrollment period or lottery (if required), remaining applications will be placed on a waiting list. Preference will be given to IVMS staff children, currently enrolled students and siblings. Please call the office for more information on both charter school and early childhood student enrollment.

A donation of $50.00 is requested to cover common school supplies that would otherwise be purchased such as pencils, paper, folders, etc. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, families will be asked to purchase a listing of school supplies specific to each learning environment.

Applicants to any IVMS early childhood programs will be referred to the appropriate staff to complete the enrollment process. Tuition and payment options are published on the early tuition page.

All Island Village Charter School and Early Childhood programs follow the current Sarasota County School District calendar.
