Board of Directors

President

    Dr. Warren L. Spurlin, has 45 years of experience in public and private education. He has degrees in administration from the University of Michigan and Michigan State University and a Doctorate in curriculum development and supervision from Wayne State University. Warren has been a classroom teacher, counselor, middle and high school principal, director of secondary education, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, superintendent, and Dean of graduate school of education at the University of Sarasota.

Vice President

    Bob Pearman, after serving in the Army Security Agency and moving to Florida, attained his Fl. Real Estate Broker, Insurance and General Contractor licenses. He has also acquired his FAA Commercial and Flight Instructor licenses for both glider and power aircraft. Besides instructing flight students from 8 to 70 yrs old, he spent a few years as a glider aerobatics air show performer. He has worked with expectant parents teaching the Lamaze method of childbirth. He even helped deliver a few! While actively involved in the business world, in his leisure time he enjoys flying, sailing, scuba diving and his time spent with the students at IVMS.

Secretary/Treasurer

    Kindra Muntz worked at General Electric Company's Aircraft Engine Group for 18 years, and received their Managerial Award in 1990. She was a broker at Merrill Lynch in Boston for five years before retiring to Venice in 1997. Kindra spearheaded the purchase of land for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Venice (www.uucov.org) and, with Kym Elder, for IVMS.  She worked with the City and County to complete the construction of Edmondson Road.

    Kindra is a graduate of Harvard University and Secretary of her Class of 1965 at Radcliffe. Most recently, she formed the Sarasota Alliance for Fair Elections (SAFE) (www.safevote.org) which helped pass a referendum in 2006 for paper ballots and mandatory audits to ensure verified elections for all voters.

Members

Whelma Thompson has her early childhood certification from the American Montessori Society. Whelma has been a Montessori teacher for close to 10 years. She moved to the United States from St. Kitts in the Caribbean. Whelma also recently completed a Masters program in elementary education. She is currently on the faculty of New Gate School.

Nancy Stormer was a former aide/secretary at St. Mark's Preschool, Venice Elementary, Osprey Elementary,  and registrar for Nokomis Elementary and Laurel Nokomis School for 28 years. After being retired for one year, she returned to the school setting, as registrar for a new charter school. Kym Elder asked for Nancy's help after the Sarasota County School Board granted her a charter to educate students in the Maria Montessori method. After five years at IVMS, Nancy retired again. She has been an active volunteer in retirement, at Instride Therapy in the office, Friday's Happy Hour in the afternoon and other events at Harbor Chase Assisted Living facility, and volunteering on Friday mornings at IVMS assisting office personnel.
